Concussions and the Modern Athlete

Join MHSAA, Lawrence Tech University and State Champs! as they present a 30 minute television special, “Concussions and the Modern Athlete”, featured on Fox Sports Detroit. This show highlights the effect of concussions on young athletes and their development. There are an estimated 3 million sports related concussions in the United States each year with 47% of athletes not reporting concussion symptoms. High school athletes take longer to recover after a concussion and may experience greater severity of symptoms with an estimated 53% of high school athletes sustaining a concussion before participation in high school athletics. Broadcast in August 2017, the show will be distributed statewide (10 times). It will also be broadcast (20) times on Comcast CN900.

Top 25 Running Backs in the past 25 Years

Who are the Top 25 high school running backs from the state of Michigan in the last 25 years? On July 16th, STATE CHAMPS! Sports Network will kick off its summer series by ranking the 25 best prep running backs from Michigan over the course of the past 25 years! From running backs like East Lansing’s Randy Kinder to Kalamazoo Loy Norrix’s T.J. Duckett to East Grand Rapids’ Kevin Grady to Detroit Cass Tech’s Mike Weber and all of the other great Michigan running backs, we will look back at all of the great high school running backs that have made their mark on the Michigan high school football landscape!

Detroit Charity Winter Classic

Catch this whirwind of fast action Metro Detroit Hockey, including Michigan State University vs University of Toledo Men’s Club team – in a fund raising event for Clark Park and Detroit’s inner city youths!

This State Champs! Production will cover Hockey games played at Clark Park – Detroit’s only full sized outdoor ice rink – in a fund raising event for Detroit’s inner city youth. The games include youth and adult games from teams across Metro Detroit culminating with the Michigan State University vs University of Toledo Men’s Club team. All proceeds go toward the Clark Park Coalition which provides year round athletic recreation programs for inner city youth.

The Detroit Athletic Club Student Athlete of the Year Award show is a yearly special broadcast in May on Fox Sports Detroit. The DAC’s winning tradition continues with its support of the National Athletic Awards and the creation of the Michigan High School Athlete of the year award. This annual award was started in 1996 and honors both, athletic and academic achievements. There are 12 nominated athletes each year, six boys and six girls, with two final winners, one boy and one girls, being announced at the ceremony held at the iconic Detroit Athletic Club.

State Champs! Rivals

The first State Champs! “Rivals” episode will focus on the 50 year football rivalry – considered to be one of the top historic rivalries in the region – between Detroit Catholic Central and Birmingham Brother Rice.

This 30 minute TV feature show will focus on the history of their great rivalry, with exclusive footage from previous games throughout the decades, interviews with top players and coaches, including NFL and college players from both teams.

This special will be broadcast on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 12:30 pm on one of Metro Detroit’s most popular stations – WXYZ Channel 7 with (20) encore broadcasts on the Comcast Network’s channel 900.

True Champions

Jesus Villa is an amazing story of courage and strength that will be documented in the State Champs! Sports Network “True Champions” Series. Jesus was born in the Dominican Republic without the tibia bones in his legs. At the age of 2 his legs were amputated above the knee. His Mother reached out to a Grand Rapids organization called Healing the Children and he came to the United States. To stay here and get treatment he was cared for in a foster home by Jim and Marge Bedowski.

Furthering his inspiring story, Jesus joined the wrestling team at Warren DeLaSalle High School and acheived an amazing 20 win season, helping his team win the school’s first ever District Championship.

SAE Supermilage Competition

The Supermileage competition provides engineering and technology students with a challenging design project that involves the development and construction of a single-person, fuel-efficient vehicle. Vehicles are powered by a small four-cycle engine. The vehicles will run a specified course with the vehicle obtaining the highest miles per gallon rating plus design segment points winning the event. Students have the opportunity to set a world fuel economy record and increase public awareness of fuel economy. This event is held at the Eaton Proving Grounds in Marshall Michigan and is part of the SAE collegiate Design Series.

North American Lacrosse Invitational

The North American Lacrosse Invitational brings the elite high school lacrosse programs from the Midwest and Canada together to compete in one location. The tournament has grown to be a nationally recognized tournament with over 25 college coaches coming to scout talent. State Champs Sports Network is proud to cover this event which showcases the future stars of college lacrosse.  This 30 minute lacrosse show covers the best games and presents spectacular highlights of the 2 day event.
